Christmas Gift
This year Ron and I have the unique opportunity to spend Christmas with our son Christopher and his two beautiful children. They have lived over 500 miles from us for the last 10 years and Christopher has recently moved to our town and is staying with us until he settles in and moves to his own place. They will still be living in our area. This is a beautiful, unexpected gift Ron and I did not anticipate. Christopher is very musically talented, he writes his own lyrics and melodies. He has just started learning to
network online with MySpace, Facebook, etc. He has his own page on MySpace and Facebook if you are interested in reading more about him (for those who might wonder he is available LOL). We will be recording him soon and uploading his music to YouTube and will update our blog when this is available.
The main reason I'm writing about this today is that Christopher wrote a blog this morning that really touched my heart and with his permission I am posting it here!
"Life is funny, we grow up wanting to be
old. Then we get old wanting to be young. Do we really know which is fun? We
thrive for money and gold letting everything else go. If we aren't careful we
find our self with no one to hold. Why is it we can't see the life we
lead? Our world is blinded by greed. For money we push and shove.
We even give up love. When did we forget how to feel. Why do we hide our
hearts in a shield. Put down the swords and stop the fight. Then we can
see the light. Love is what we need not power and greed."
So simple but so true! Here's wishing everyone has a wonderful Holiday Season and a better year for us all in 2010!!
I've been doing some soul searching lately! Happens every year around this time! Memories of Christmas past, years gone by, people that are no longer here on this earth yet are still with me like angels, their spirits still live in my heart. New beginnings, new little ones here for Christmas this year! More and more as I get older and have more experiences, I find life is full of surprises and Forest Gump had it right when he said "My Mother said life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get." We all can choose to see things in a positive way! Why not? It makes the world better for everyone around you! So Seasons Greetings to all our friends, regardless of religious preference, we all can hope for a world of peace! Hope for a world where we all get along!

Barbara of A Bird In My Hand
So the rules of this one are to tell you seven things about myself you may not know. I've done this one before and this is so hard. LOL So here goes:
1. Like Barbara I am a dog lover!! Who could resist this face:
I cry every time I see a commercial for adopting pets from the shelters!
2. I love popsicles!
3. I hate to see litter on the ground and often walk around the neighborhood picking up trash.
4. I love clean sheets that have line dried.
5. I love hearing my son and husband play guitar.
6. I love keeping Christmas lights up all year changing the colors according to holidays.
7. I love sun catchers and have them in several windows in my house.
So I'm passing it on to
Brenda of Wicked Wool Gathering
and
Chris of Prim Country Farms
Buy Hand Made ~ Support Your Local Artists
I was reading another artist's blog Karri of Three Spotted Dogs and she had blogged about this subject. I could not express it any better then she has so with her permission I have posted her writing here.
"Why buy handmade? As the giver of a handmade gift, you have supported an artist directly. Someone much like yourself, with bills to pay, family to feed and
clothe. Artists and Craftsman that have spent many hours and their own resources to create pieces that you can share and be proud of. Pieces that no one else has...no mass made, imported, big business marketing! You can avoid the chain & department stores in favor of something of much more meaning and value. The recipient of the handmade gift receives something that is one-of-a-kind (OOAK), and made with love and care, attention that can not be matched by a machine. You and your giftrecipient get the gratification of art and skill that is absent in the world of large-scale manufacturing. You may also find that buying handmade is environmentally a plus too. Many artists use recycled and green material to fashion wonderful fine art pieces..
From quilted to crocheted...painted or sculpted...felted or sewn...the possibilities
are endless.
So here's a plug for Myself and my Fellow Artists & Friends...Buy Handmade This Christmas! Or Anytime!
Some of my favorite links are listed under blogs I follow. There are links to artists groups I'm proud to be part of as well (BWBA, AHQU, HA31). Check out ebay, etsy, or selling blogs! Click those links from our blogs...buy handmade! "
Thank you Karri for thinking of all of us Artists!!
And if you haven't seen Karri's work, its gorgeous, be sure and visit her blog!!

Jamie Ridler asks us "What do we wish to dare?" I believe life is all
about cycles and as Stevie Nicks asks in her song "Landslide" "Can I sail through the changes, can I handle the seasons of my life, I don't know." So many changes have ocurred in my life in the last two years it has been almost overwhelming. When a family illness took us by surprise in September 2007 I started searching for answers. Ron and I had already achieved some small success on Ebay with out Art. We lived in a Cottage that is a work in progress and we have beautiful gardens. Just as I was settling into a comfortable routine life changed in a profound way, hit with a brick would describe it. I knew I needed help, support. I joined some groups on Ebay and one of members welcomed me and reached out to me and I began to share with her on a personal level. One in particular and she knows who she is; I followed her all over the internet. That led me to what some of us knows as the "Black Hat Society Network" where I found another place of refuge. I was thinking at this point these women are nice enough but how can I learn from them when they are so much younger then me. I had no idea just how much I could learn. They took me by the hand and led me into a completely new way of life I had never even considered, a spiritual haven. Heather of Witch Hollow Primitives and Jennifer, founder of the Black Hat became my daily, online connections. They had no idea how much was unbalanced in my personal life. They accepted me just as I was and I finally found the place I could fly. I owe them both a tremendous amount of gratitude. The Universe sent them to me, of this I am sure.
Now I wish to dare to embrace this new life and not hide it but shout to the world "Don't judge other people with different spiritual beliefs then your own, if you do you will cheat yourself." I dare to keep believing I might actually succeed in the world of art, and hold on to this beautiful place I call home. That the other shoe isn't going to drop, I dare to trust again, to love again, to laugh again, to live again. And now as the circle takes me into middle age my 32 year old son is coming back home and he's bringing more. LOL Two small children and I dare to believe Ron and I can do this, we can handle it. Because I have a support system that makes me strong, because I believe the Universe is working and even if I don't understand the "whole picture" I understand little pieces here and there and it is going to be alright if I just keep daring to "Believe"!

Halloween 2009
Every Halloween Party starts with a Pumpkin and how about a hand painted cake? Yum Yum!
Every year our little town has a Spooktacular on Main Street!
We decided to go for a turn of the century look. Ron is a Gambler and I look like a Tavern wench! This historic town we lived in had an old west style to it once upon a time!
Our friends Bob and Donna Frost came from Memphis! A jail bird and a Fortune Teller!!
For a moment there it looked like Ron might have been the Sheriff.
There were trick or treaters of all kinds, young and old and it was a sight to see!
A beautiful sunset with an almost full moon and a cool night! Perfect weather!!
It's getting late now and time to say goodnight!
We have picked the winners of our Give Away!!
We hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!
Brenda LaBell won 1st place, the original painting!
Thistlebrooms won 2nd place the glass framed print!
Congratulations to both of you!!!
Wishcast Wednesday!!
Jamie asked us What treat do you wish for????
I wish to see my sons and their children a trip to a Theme Park with my grandchildren. My family is so scattered out the only time we all get together is Christmas and because of some inlaw problems my sons have not been seeing each other at all. So if I could have anything in the world I wanted, it would be one glorious day to
share with my sons and their children and everyone had a really good time!! I would especially like to go to the Dolly Pardon Theme Park in the Smokey Mountains because I love mountains and theme parks! Fun for the kids and for Grandma.
Toot, Toot, All Aboard!!!!
this one was created by Ces was given to me by Sarah. This is what Ces says about the award:
"So today I am planting another tree. The Quercus shumardii or Shumard Oak. It is a handsome large tree with straight axis and broad, rounded open crown. It withstands strong hurricane winds, extreme heat, is tall and straight and just plain beautiful. It fits it's honoree, my dearest sister friend Deborah, poet, friend, not just a mother but a soldier's mother too. Oh, the sleepless nights, the anxiety and worries, yet she is perpetually pleasant and cheerful, kind and gentle, diplomatic and tactful. She exudes courage, hope and faith. To her son Pfc. Ryan and his fellow soldiers: I am grateful to you for making it possible for me to blog freely, sleep soundly and speak openly. Thank you! I stand by your mother and hold her hand as she awaits your safe return home.
Deborah, the honor is mine. You have enriched my life in such a short period of time. You inspire me and encourage me. Thank you very much!
I have more trees to plant but rest assured those who have virtual trees and acorns planted and distributed in their honor have one common virtue, they are loyal friends regardless of race, creed, political affiliations and geography. Here, I honor womanhood and friendship and there is nothing more wondrous a blessing for anyone than for a friend who came and never left your side. Someone like Deborah."
I have those kind of friends, as different as all the trees in my yard, oaks, redbuds, dogwoods, a sycamore. All beautiful and strong that grace my property with their different shapes and sizes, just like my friends who add to my life in different ways, but whom all touch my heart and give me Hope, Courage and Faith.
Back to you Sarah!! Everyday you are there to greet me, faithful you are. A Ray of sunshine when I am down. Your love of life is inspiring.
Heather
you know me so well (and love me anyway) and you have such aspecial place in my heart. You have Hope, Courage and Faith! You are stronger then you know!
Jennifer
for two years now you have inspired me to grow and learn new things and think outside the box with your amazing courage and faith and your endless creativity.
There are many more ladies I have met online that inspire me but I just don't have time to list them all.
